Richard W. Levandov Richard W. Levandov, Managing Member

Rich Levandov has over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, operating executive, and venture capitalist involving a variety of cutting edge early stage technology companies. Prior to joining Avalon in 2007 to establish the Firm's East Coast investing activities he has been involved in many entrepreneurial and venture capital endeavors.

His first entrepreneurial and operating experience in began in 1982 with the co-founding of Phoenix Technologies (Nasdaq: PTEC), a personal computer systems software company that played a major role in the standardization of the personal computer industry around the IBM PC Standard. Phoenix went public in 1998 and still continues to provide the majority of PC compatibility software to the personal computer industry. After his decade long career with Phoenix, he joined America Online and served as Vice President of Business Development working on the team responsible for Internet business strategy, acquisition integration and AOL's expansion as a consumer service provider into the Internet.

His first experience with Venture Capital was as a founding affiliate partner with the first SOFTBANK Venture capital fund in 1996. After the initial funds investment period Rich became an active entrepreneur and angel investor again before joining Masthead Venture Partners in 2003 to co-found their new $160 million dollar early stage fund. In the last 11 years as a venture capitalist, Rich has been involved in over 75 investment decisions, led over 20 investments and has been a director of over 15 companies. Some of the investments Rich has been responsible for include: Art Technology Group, PersonaLogic, BrightMail, Valent Software, Sombasa Media, Mobilee, Software.com, Time Trade, Bit Pipe, Tacoda Systems, Tremor Media, Newsgator Technologies, Nexaweb, Liquid Machines Inc., Chumby Industries and Intercasting Corp.

Rich holds a B.S. degree from Binghamton University. He is a Director of Avalon portfolio companies Intercasting Corp. and Chumby Industries as well as Tacoda Systems, Tremor Media, Newsgator Technlogies, Nexaweb and Liquid Machines Inc.

He is a member of the MIT Enterprise Forum and he serves as a judge for the MIT $100k Business Plan Competition.
